The process began with gathering all necessary information from the Shop Lansdowne stakeholders, including their goals for the website, target audience, branding guidelines, and desired features. This discovery phase involved reviewing existing materials such as the Shop Lansdowne logo, color palette, and any promotional assets. Once the vision and scope were clear, I selected a suitable hosting provider and installed WordPress, ensuring a secure and stable environment with SSL encryption and updated PHP settings.
Next, I configured the basic WordPress settings, including the site title, tagline, and permalink structure for SEO-friendly URLs. I installed and activated a professional, mobile-responsive WordPress theme that aligned with the Shop Lansdowne brand identity. I also created a child theme to allow for custom styling without affecting core theme updates. From there, I installed essential plugins for functionality—such as an SEO plugin, security tools, caching for performance, and a form builder for contact and inquiry forms.
The design phase focused on customizing the theme to reflect Shop Lansdowne’s look and feel. This included applying brand colors, typography, and imagery, as well as creating a user-friendly navigation menu to help visitors easily explore the site. I structured the homepage to highlight featured businesses, special events, and community updates. Key internal pages were developed, including “About,” “Shop Directory,” “Events,” and “Contact,” each with optimized headings, copy, and images for SEO.
For the Shop Directory, I created individual business listings complete with descriptions, photos, contact details, and links to their websites or social media. Each listing was categorized by business type, allowing users to filter and search easily. I integrated event calendar functionality to promote upcoming community activities and special promotions. Additionally, I configured forms for local businesses to submit their own updates or event information.
Once the design and content were in place, I tested the site extensively on desktop, tablet, and mobile devices to ensure a seamless user experience. This testing phase included checking loading speeds, verifying that all links and forms worked correctly, and ensuring accessibility compliance. After making final refinements, I optimized the site for search engines by setting meta titles, descriptions, and alt text for all images.
Finally, I launched the website, submitted it to Google Search Console for indexing, and provided the Shop Lansdowne team with a training session on updating content, adding new businesses, and managing events. Post-launch, I set up regular backups and security monitoring to keep the site protected and running smoothly. The end result was a vibrant, easy-to-navigate WordPress website that effectively showcases Lansdowne’s local businesses and encourages community engagement.
